Catching up to the 20th Century

OK, so entire lives -- births, deaths, marriages, divorces, nifty new restaurants -- are transpiring among my friends and I have been missing it all because I was not *gasp* ONLINE.

It's not that I'm new to computers.  I was once the go-to person in Arthur Andersen's tax division for WordStar support and I am not making that up.  And yet... I have no web site.  No blog.  No (so help me god) Facebook or MySpace page.  A tiny handful of Ravelry projects, yes, but that's it.  Why not?

See, every morning I wake up and get my husband and son off to work/school.  Then I feed the cats, one of whom needs repeated feedings throughout the day because he is 16, has bad kidneys and bad teeth, but will not die.  Then I check on the ferret who gets twice-daily meds.  I water the plants.  I check to see that the birdbath has water.  I water the garden in season.  I check email and cajole my clients.  And then I want to find a puppy and kick it because I am well and truly sick of nurturing things.

Friends have tried to give me sourdough starters and I beg off politely... while wondering why in the hell would I want to take on the responsibility of caring for a living ball of flour!?

And now I have taken on the responsibility of caring for a blog.  Like I needed this?  But hey, it's time to man up.  So here we go.  Thanks for listening.

You don't have to write anything here if you don't feel like it. Aren't there enough sources of guilt in your life already?

(Guide to secret Livejournal names of your friends available on request.)

Sources of guilt

Wow, hello! This Livejournal thing is working. I am so easily impressed. Yes, secret Livejournal names would be very much appreciated. It is a well-known fact that Bill Higgins knows everybody and I am happy to further the legend. Thanks!

Woot!!! Welcome!

Like He Said, you don't have to say a thing, but it gives me a happy to know you're listening!!!

You can always have a LiveJournal just for the sake of reading your friends' journals, without writing in your own. That's what I do.

Owait no, that's what my plan was.

I have absolutley no idea who you are. But with a name like acme rubber spaceship what could go wrong?

Welcome to the grapevine!

I'm one of many who read LJ quite frequently, but rarely comment and even more rarely post. It can be done.

Welcome.

Hi there -- I don't know you personally, but if [livejournal.com profile] beamjockey vouches for you, how can you be bad? Also, I like everything on your interest list.

Post as often or as little as you want -- I'm not posting much myself lately because at the moment I'm taken up with school, worksearch, and a newish Facebook account. But LJ is a great place to explore.

Welcome to LJ. And I don't think I was every part of your APA...

I was once the go-to person for WordStar support

I understand. 30 years ago I used to count all the modems in Michigan for TPC. Really. Had a Bell System Teletype to use to connect and key in the information. No CRT, still it probably was a $2,000 terminal that used paper. Part of the program was to determine how many spares to keep on hand at each garage.

Welcome to this world. Hey, if Bill says you are a cool fan, you must be.

Ah; and just last week, I was just wondering what you'd been up to.

Welcome.

I only have one thing to say...
