From the NY Times story about the new version of Google Docs:

In the new document editing apps, up to 50 people can work on the same document at the same time, literally conducting letter-by-letter tug-of-wars over individual words.

Doesn't that sound like fun!?  But seriously, folks, have you been using Google Docs?  How do you like it for collaborating?  And if the new version can no longer be used offline, doesn't that just pitch the whole thing into the dustbin?

I only started using it last week, prompted by a long Character List that needed to be generated, but that had different requirements for different people.

It's been fabulous. I've been able to add entries as I go through the series chronologically, and make changes or additions to characters that appeared earlier, while my fellow worker has been able to add notes, change names, add a whole column for new information - the works.

Because I don't want to mess with it *during* her changes, I've been leaving it alone when I see she's actively using it, and I can see that scheduling issues might come up if it was something we both needed at the same time, but overall it has been so superior to our previous "you edit, then send it to me" that I expect I'll be using Google Docs a great deal more in the future.
