1852: The Law of Crochet
Apr. 3rd, 2011 03:02 pmThis article has it all. First, it's from Punch, one of the world's great publications. It is about crochet, one of the world's great avocations. It has a joke (perhaps anti-Semetic?) about Benjamin Disraeli. And it mentions one of my favorite antique creatures, the Apteryx. (Say it with me, B.C. readers: "Hi there, I'm an Apteryx, a wingless bird with hairy feathers.")
Best of all, although it appears on its surface to be sympathetic to the plight of husbands, just the fact that this article had to be written 160 years ago confirms that my yarn, thread, hook and pattern expenses are perfectly reasonable, nay, commendable, given the tide of history.
Which reminds me, the early universe clearly contained more anti-macassar particles than macassar particles. Perhaps the LHC can get to the bottom of this.
