Costumers will immediately notice the first wrong thing about this photo...

This photo was taken about 1875, but the dresses date to the 1860s or maybe earlier, and the gentleman's suit goes back to the turn of the century, wouldn't you say? It looks like they dug the clothes out of a trunk and traipsed downtown to the portrait studio. The girl seated left is my Great-Grandmother Emma Myrtie Flury (she's holding her eyeglasses). The other young people are her siblings and the guy on the right might be her father Henry, but I am not sure. Mother is not in the picture, though these could well be her old dresses.
The other wrong thing about this shot is that Myrtie had two sisters and two brothers. Take a closer look at the guys standing center. That is one epic wig and some nice pearl drop earrings on my Great-Great-Uncle Harry, and Uncle Edgar has a good hold on that purse. I am impressed.
Now... what are they up to? Is Henry's wife Theresa absent because she thought they were all idiots... or was this photo planned as a surprise gift for her? Family lore and documentation are silent, so we are free to speculate.
