Willis, Schmillis Tower
Mar. 13th, 2009 12:18 pmI must be in the minority. I'm not a native Chicagoan, but I've lived here 30+ years and I don't give a rat's ass if they rename the Sears Tower. Sears abandoned Chicago decades ago, moving their HQ to the godforsaken suburbs and closing their flagship store on State Street. They did eventually open a new store on State Street, but only after the area experienced a retail boom no thanks to Sears.
And while I'm at it, old man Comiskey was a tightwad SOB who refused to pay a living wage and thus triggered a scandal that ruined careers and almost destroyed major league baseball.
Whereas "Big Willie" is an excellent name for a skyscraper located just north of the "Dilbert Memorial" (also known as "Home of the Sliders"). Here's a very cool site, whether or not you have the entire Chicago skyline memorized:

FWIW, Mike calls it The Standard Oil Building, I call it Amoco, and our son calls it Aon Center, which proves that people will keep calling a building whatever they're in the habit of calling it, and a generation from now it won't matter for beans.
