Well, honestly, if an Ukulele Club in Chicago is doing Susie Snowflake, doesn't it stand to reason that they have to step up to the plate, take their medicine, roll up their sleeves and suck it up with Hardrock, Coco and Joe? I have no second thoughts about that.  But the part where I agreed to write up an arrangement and lead the group, that I should have thought better of.  I have now watched The Video about a dozen times in a row and my cognitive functions may never recover.  There's more to the story, and a PDF, here...

"Hardrock" would be a good name for an elf in an entirely different style of song. Something by the Stones perhaps. "I met a gin-soaked barroom elf last Christmas, he tried to take me upstairs for a ride, he had to heave me right across a reindeer, cause drinking can't get Santa off my mind. He's an ohhhhhh-lee-o-lady sleigh driver; He gives me, gives me, gives me the oh-lady-oh blues."

Good. Now I am in the exact right mood to leave for Uke Club.

I haven't listened to HC&J this year; therefore, it can't quite be Christmas yet. Although I've heard some Vince Guaraldi, so it is after Thanksgiving.

Oddly, a dozen hearings of HC&J did NOT put me into the Christmas spirit. Well, maybe that's not so odd. I listened to Chanticleer for a while today and now it's Christmas.

Saturday TV Funhouse was a creation of Robert Smigel, who has never shied away from mining his Chicago roots ("Daaa Bearsss", etc.). He probably encountered HC&J, perhaps at an all-too-impressionable age.
